Education & Career Consulting Practice
Sam focuses his education and career consulting on helping students accused of sexual misconduct apply to college, transfer between colleges, and secure personally and financially rewarding careers. He also helps students with academic, criminal and gender/ethnic/racial insensitivity issues and provides online reputation management guidance in complex situations.
He has earned a national reputation helping such students re-claim their education, career and life trajectories since January 2014.
Background
Sam earned his B.A. at Yale where he was an English major and his J.D. from New York University School of Law. Although he is a licensed attorney, he does not provide legal services, only education and career consulting services.
Sam has been on Yale's select list of external career coaches, regularly spoke on career issues for the Yale Alumni Association (YAA), and was the creator and anchor/moderator of season 1 of Career Pivots (formerly the Career Hour) on the YAA Careers Life and Yale network - a monthly, live Zoom show on career management in the AI driven 2020's - from September 2020 to May of 2021. Watch a show Sam did with his classmate and friend, Bing Gordon of Kleiner Perkins and formerly on the Board at Amazon among other companies, including how he came up with the name "Amazon Prime" ( visit: https://vimeo.com/521603665 ).
Prior to his education and career consulting he was an Internet pioneer and visionary. In 1994, he co-founded his first venture-funded Internet company. There he created award-winning web brands and led them into the market and secured innovative, content provider agreements with industry leaders such as Microsoft and AOL.
Later, he co-founded a second venture-funded Internet company. There he oversaw the development and launch of one of the first blog technologies, political social networking sites and online giving sites. He secured innovative affinity agreements with industry leaders such as Amazon.
Sam produced some of the early political shows on the Internet including the first Internet show from the nation’s capitol on AOL, and one of President Clinton's first online appearances on MSN.
In his various careers he was frequently called upon as a program leader and spoke to small and large audiences, for example, at Internet World at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City and at the American Bar Association's annual meeting in Chicago.
Prior to co-founding the venture-funded Internet companies, Sam was a partner at a multinational law firm where he concentrated his practice in complex litigation involving the construction industry. While there he co-authored and edited respected texts and many articles. He was a sought after speaker and program leader.
Education & Law Practice
After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, Sam received his B.A. from Yale College and his J.D. from New York University School of Law. Prior to co-founding the Internet companies, and after a judicial clerkship, Sam then was a partner in a multinational law firm where he concentrated his practice on complex litigation involving the construction industry, co-authored and edited respected books and articles in his area and was a sought after program leader and speaker. While at the firm, on behalf of a client he obtained the then largest judgment in the firm's history - one in excess of 20 million dollars in federal court in California (over 40 million in today's dollars) and brought to the firm a major engagement that was singled out as one of the firm's 10 most important engagements at the firm's 100th anniversary.
